As told by his mom
This is my son, Wyatt.
He is a fun, wild, energetic little boy with a love for life.
This year is special for us, because 90% of children with his condition do not live to see their 5th birthday.
Wyatt has a rare neurodegenerative disease called Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency (PDCD).
Wyatt endures painful blood draws, uncomfortable EEGs of his brain, and probably the worst in his mind, a special diet. The only treatment for PDCD is a medical ketogenic diet. He is limited to 10g of carbohydrates per day to stay in ketosis.
That means no candy on Halloween. No treats at birthday parties. Not even his own birthday cake. We have learned to recreate foods so he can still feel included.
We are a blended family with three children who all have different needs, which can make even simple outings overwhelming.
Typically when deciding to to an activity, we have to think about ADA accommodations, sensory disturbances, food allergies, length of travel, etc. But the worst is always fear of judgement from people around us. But not with A Kid Again.
A Kid Again has provided our family with Adventures we never thought would be possible.
When we arrive at an Adventure, we know our family is welcomed and accepted exactly as we are. That changes everything.
Our favorite Adventure is the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. That is where Wyatt met Santa for the first time. We go every year now and the kids have the best time. It’s out only real holiday tradition as a very blended family.
A Kid Again has made so many memories for our family that we will cherish forever. We are beyond grateful and hope every family that comes to an Adventure knows that any A Kid Again Adventure is a safe space and judgement free zone to let your kids be who they are and they are loved for it.

Being a sibling of a child with a serious condition can be just as hard. At A Kid Again, they get their turn to just be a kid.
For families raising a child with a life-threatening condition, every day can feel filled with fear and uncertainty. Your gift gives them something priceless: carefree time together as a family through the year.
