Megan Koester: Taking A Kid Again to New Heights 

Megan Koester, celebrating her first year as National President and CEO of A Kid Again, has been instrumental in elevating the organization to new heights. Initially focusing on enhancing the organization’s signature Adventures, Megan soon realized the profound impact of the community that forms around these events. This insight significantly influenced her approach. “I initially thought the Adventures were the main attraction for our families,” Megan reflects. “But through engaging conversations, I learned that it’s the sense of community and understanding within A Kid Again that truly makes us special, prompting families to eagerly mark their calendars for upcoming Adventures.”   

This community-centered approach has allowed A Kid Again to expand its reach, now touching the lives of families in California and Texas, and offering Adventures in various exciting venues such as aquariums, more Cedar Fair parks and baseball games. The organization is now a beacon of joy for over 15,700 families nationwide. A standout event was the King’s Island Rides & Slides Adventure, which attracted a remarkable 8,400 participants for a day of complimentary enjoyment. 

Megan emphasizes, “Our success isn’t just measured in numbers. It’s about providing families, who are raising children with life-threatening conditions, with moments of happiness, a break from daily challenges, and lasting memories to sustain them through tough times.” 

One of Megan’s most impactful experiences was the Birthday Bash Adventure at Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. “The event featured a unique ‘birthday buddy’ concept,” Megan explains. “Participants wore pins displaying their birthdays, aiming to find and take photos with others sharing the same birth date. It was a joy to mingle with families in the park and connect over shared birthdays.” 

Megan’s role has also positively influenced her family life. Her twin boys have become actively involved, learning the importance of being helpful and supportive. As her sons embrace these values, Megan is dedicated to fostering and securing partnerships with organizations embodying similar principles. 

“This year, we’ve strengthened our partnership with Cedar Fair, hosting Adventures in 12 of their parks. Impressively, Cedar Fair’s contributions to A Kid Again have surpassed $10 million over our partnership’s duration. We’re equally thrilled about our collaboration with Crayola in 2023. Their support enabled us to host events at various Crayola Experiences, contribute to the launch of Crayola Flowers (which benefits A Kid Again), and include Crayola chalk in our Adventures in a Box. These partnerships are invaluable in bringing joy and color to the lives of our families,” Megan shares. 

As she steps into her second year, Megan is focused on one goal: creating more smiles and unforgettable memories. Her dedication signifies a promising and hopeful future for families raising children with life-threatening conditions. “I’m excited about what lies ahead for A Kid Again,” Megan states. “We’re committed to enriching the lives of our families through memorable Adventures and a supportive community. The future looks bright, filled with hope, happiness, and healing for the families we serve.”
