Coordinator of Family Programs and Communications

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Coordinator of Family Programs and Communications is key to the success of the Northern Ohio Chapter and will report directly the chapter executive director. This position is perfect for the individual that is outgoing, full of energy, takes initiative and is passionate about helping others; and on occasion, likes to be A Kid Again! Duties include but are not limited to planning and executing A Kid Again programs, family and volunteer recruitment, on-boarding, and tracking, reporting, providing crucial support for events and fundraisers, budget adherence and assisting the executive director as requested. This position provides meaningful interaction with families, volunteers, and supporters and provides opportunities for creativity and input.

Family Experience (Adventure):

  • Plan and manage all aspects of A Kid Again programs called Adventures including securing venues, planned activities, in-kind donations, entertainment, tickets, mailings, attendance tracking and reporting, and volunteer management and training, etc.
  • Ensure these are the Adventures that our families will enjoy and are inclusive of individual needs (ex. ADA seating)
  • Create an annual budget with the executive director
  • identify key volunteers to create an Adventure Committee
  • Maintain an accurate database of enrolled AKA children and families
  • Communicate with families regarding Adventures, special events, birthdays and graduations
  • Complete Adventure summaries within one week of the Adventure
  • Build and maintain relationships with hospitals and other organizations for referrals of families

Volunteer Engagement

  • Establish and maintain long-term relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, civic organizations, schools, etc. that result in an effective volunteer base
  • Recruit new volunteers and keep them engaged
  • Fully engage new and existing volunteers by:
    • Providing orientation and training
    • Conducting regular volunteer meetings
    • Informing volunteers about upcoming volunteer opportunities
    • Identifying volunteer skills and matching volunteers to best opportunities
    • Providing support as needed and soliciting volunteer feedback and input

Communication

  • Develop and implement integrated social media strategy including but not limited to email, Facebook and Twitter
  • Create and implement Social Media calendar
  • Adventure invitations

Fundraiser/Event Management

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers/committees
  • Participate in the overall planning and execution of the event from start to finish
  • Assist the executive director as needed

Other

  • Provide other professional and timely support to staff, board, volunteers and families as needed
  • Complete additional assignments as designated by the executive director
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of information gathered and used by A Kid Again
  • Adhere to predetermined budgets

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (nonprofit preferred)
  • 3 years program/event creation and implementation experience
  • Working knowledge and experience in Raiser’s Edge/Blackbaud (or other donor databases), Microsoft Office, Excel, and other programs such as Classy, MailChimp, etc.
  • Social media experience
  • Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe experience a plus
