DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

ABOUT A KID AGAIN: 

A growing organization, with seven staffed chapters and families enrolled in 48 states, A Kid Again’s mission is to foster Hope, Happiness and Healing in the lives of families raising children with life-threatening conditions. Year-round, cost-free activities serving the entire immediate family provide a break from hospital stays, doctor appointments and surgeries. Qualifying kids represent more than 250 unique diagnoses including cancer, sickle cell, Cystic Fibrosis, seizure disorders, and Down syndrome, to name a few.

A Kid Again was founded in 1995 in Columbus, Ohio (where the national office is based) and currently has a staff of 35 fulltime employees.  The organization serves 30,000+ individuals (including qualifying child, parents and siblings) and has a $8-million operating budget.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This position is a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the National CEO, and is responsible for driving the strategic fiscal vision for a growing organization.  This includes ensuring adequate controls are in place and maintained in order to meet programmatic needs. The successful candidate will bring experience and knowledge of the nonprofit industry to help forge growth on a national scale.

 

The CFO is responsible for overall financial operations and is accountable for all aspects of the day-to-day fiscal management of the organization. The position oversees accounting practices, maintains the organization’s records, prepares financial reports, and develops policies and practices that ensure fiscal soundness.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the CEO and the national board of directors on the fiscal strategic vision of the organization.
  • Serve as non-voting member of the national Executive Board as Treasurer, pending board approval.
  • Ensure adequate controls are maintained to safeguard financial assets of the organization and ensuring that all functions and records will pass independent audits.
  • Working in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership, develop an organization-wide annual operating budget, ensuring all programmatic and donor-related requirements are accounted for and met. Provide ongoing analysis of variances from budget, managing forecasting and recommending changes needed to achieve budget goals.
  • Manage and coordinate all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including monthly profit & loss statements, balance sheet reports and cash flow analysis.
  • Oversee payroll (through external provider) to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all compensation and benefits related programs.
  • Serve as internal point of contact for yearly independent external audit and IRS 990 tax form preparation. Maintain and deliver appropriate schedules and reports, ensuring appropriate accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
  • Monitor and administer banking and investment activities of the organization.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable through the management of contract accounting service and contract employee who maintain those functions.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years’ experience working successfully in a lead accounting role utilizing GAAP
  • Successful candidate will have extensive experience in nonprofit accounting
  • Experience with an organization that has a regionalized chapter model is ideal
  • Experience with investment management and asset allocation is necessary
  • Experience working with a national board is preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent is required. CPA preferred.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online preferred

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position can be fully remote. Options for in-person office environment possible.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Salary ranging from $110,000-$130,000
  • Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, parental leave, matching retirement plan, and competitive paid time off.
