DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

ABOUT A KID AGAIN: 

A growing organization, with seven staffed chapters and families enrolled in 48 states, A Kid Again’s mission is to foster Hope, Happiness and Healing in the lives of families raising children with life-threatening conditions. Year-round, cost-free activities serving the entire immediate family provide a break from hospital stays, doctor appointments and surgeries. Qualifying kids represent more than 250 unique diagnoses including cancer, sickle cell, Cystic Fibrosis, seizure disorders, and Down syndrome, to name a few.

A Kid Again was founded in 1995 in Columbus, Ohio (where the national office is based) and currently has a staff of 35 fulltime employees.  The organization serves 30,000+ individuals (including qualifying child, parents and siblings) and has a $8-million operating budget.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This position is a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the National CEO, and is responsible for the strategy and execution of a national development plan for a growing organization.  This includes cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high level individuals, companies and foundations nationally. The successful candidate will leverage their relationships and knowledge of philanthropy to help forge new relationships to build A Kid Again’s visibility, impact, and financial resources on a national scale.

The CDO is responsible for identifying high-capacity prospects, supporters, and donors as well as representing the organization at key donor meetings and events, articulating the organization’s mission, operational strategies, and successes. The CDO will streamline all fundraising activities and have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $8-million budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide vision and comprehensive development strategy to build and manage a full-scale development program, including major gifts, planned giving, government grants, annual giving, gift processing and acknowledgment, and other support.
  • Refine development processes and controls that maximize efficiency and drive results.
  • Support and partner with the CEO, senior leadership and board members on all major fundraising initiatives.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts and pledges from an active portfolio of key major gift prospects, maintaining and managing a personal portfolio of prospects at all times.
  • Manage and nurture the current internal development team of two (Director of Strategic Partnerships and Fundraising Events Specialist) to achieve or exceed their revenue targets; while also providing leadership to two contract grant writers who provide services organization-wide.
  • Solicit planned gifts from prospects, demonstrating a sound understanding of different planned giving vehicles.
  • Work in partnership with chapter Executive Directors and staff to optimize giving at local, regional and national levels.
  • Collaborate with national marketing team on organization-wide campaigns and initiatives that tell stories, share outcomes, and highlight partners.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10-15 years’ experience working successfully in a fundraising role, preferably with time spent in a development leadership position at a national organization. Experience with a nonprofit that has a regionalized chapter model is ideal.
  • Experience working with a national board and major gift donors is necessary, with a proven record of securing six-figure gifts.
  • Successful candidate will have a background building and scaling revenue within a growing organization.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. CFRE preferred.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position can be fully remote. Options for in-person office environment possible. Significant travel will be necessary for success in this role.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • Salary ranging from $110,000-$130,000
  • Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, parental leave, matching retirement plan, and competitive paid time off.
